LETTER

FROM

THE SECRETARY OF THE INTERIOR,

TRANSMITTING,

In further response to Senate resolution of December 8, 1882, a list of
pensioners on the roll January 1, 1883, &c.

March 1, 1883.---Ordered to lie on the table.
March 3, 1883.---Ordered to be printed.

Department of the Interior
Washington, March 1, 1883.

Sir:  In further and final response to Senate resolution of December 8, 1882, I have the honor to submit herewith a list of pensioners on the roll January 1, 1883, giving the name of each pensioner, the cause for which pensioned, the post-office address, the rate of pension per month, and the date of original allowance, the whole arranged alphabetically by towns in each county by States, as called for by the resolution, together with the copy of a letter of the Commissioner of Pensions of the 28th ultimo submitting the matter to this Department.

Very respectfully,

H. M. Teller,
Secretary

The President of the Senate, pro tempore.

Department of the Interior, Pension Office,
Washington, D. C., February 28, 1883.

Sir:  I have the honor to submit herewith a list of the pensioners on the roll January 1, 1883, giving the name of each pensioner, the cause for which pensioned, the post-office address, the rate of pension per month, and the date of original allowance;  the whole arranged alphabetically by towns in each county by States, as called for by Senate resolution under date of December 8, 1882.

I regret that the time has been so limited to perform the very large amount of work involved in the preparation of this report, not affording the time necessary to complete the data, which will be found omitted in many cases, as well as a more convenient arrangement of the various classes of pensioners, which I would like to have done.

In the States in which a pension agency is located will be found the names of several pensioners whose post-office addresses are omitted, and the want of time prevents me from supplying the omission.

Believing it to be important that this report should be submitted before the adjournment of Congress, I have made every effort to comply with the requirement of the Senate resolution in a manner as satisfactory as it was possible to do, in the time I have had at my disposal.

If this report is to be printed as an Executive document, and for general distribution, I respectfully suggest that the Commissioner of Pensions be directed to superintend the arrangement by geographical division in the order in which it is to be printed.

I am sir, very respectfully,

W. W. Dudley,
Commissioner of Pensions.

Hon. H. M. Teller,
Secretary of the Interior.
